Inside the Forbes Power Women’s Summit 2024

The Forbes’ annual Power Women's Summit 2024 in New York on September 11, marking one of the events the Kaplow team looks forward to attending and staffing most each year. Founded 12 years ago by Forbes Executive Vice President and ForbesWomen publisher Moira Forbes, the Summit “has been at the center of pivotal conversations for women,” and “promises to spotlight the most critical issues facing leaders today, and will serve as a playbook for navigating change and empowering opportunities for others.”

This year’s theme of, “Taking the Lead,” brought together barrier-breaking leaders shaping health, wealth and entertainment, including Olympic Gymnast Jordan Chiles, Founders and CEOs Gwyneth PaltrowToryBurch, Actresses and Activists Kerry Washington and Issa Rae. In honor of the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Forbes invited former FDNY captain and hero Brenda Berkman to give remarks.

Some of our team’s most memorable moments came from the stage:

  • Jordan Chiles, Olympic Gymnast: “Success and power comes from being your authentic self.”

  • Fawn Weaver, entrepreneur, author and Founder, Uncle Nearest: “You make sure you own what no one can take away from you,” speaking about founding Uncle Nearest, a premium whiskey brand named to honor the formerly enslaved Nearest Green who taught Jack Daniel how to make whiskey.

  • Gwyneth Paltrow, actress, author, entrepreneur and CEO, Goop: “Though Goop has become a household name in recent years, Paltrow told Forbes she struggled when she first started the company because she didn't have a business background…. Paltrow said she became more successful when she let go of her "shame" about what she didn't know.” (Business Insider)

  • Tory Burch, designer and entrepreneur: “There’s nothing more attractive than an ambitious woman,” said designer and entrepreneur Tory Burch. “Never shy away from the word ‘ambition.’”

  • Issa Rae, writer, producer, and founder of HOORAE Media: “Taking chances on people breeds innovation.”

“We started this summit 12 years ago as an opportunity to bring together women who don’t normally share the same stage, but care deeply and passionately about similar sets of issues” Forbes said. “The theme of this year’s Summit is taking the lead, and every single woman on the stage and in this room exemplifies that mission.”
